PCOS & Insulin resistance

What is PCOS?

The exact cause is unknown— it emerges after puberty due to excess androgens produced by the ovaries interfering with ovulation, causing cysts to form and leading to irregular periods.

Why cysts?

High androgen levels from ovaries suppress follicle growth, preventing ovulation; follicles then stall and form small, fluid-filled sacs visible on ultrasound.
